I think that one of the hardest thing to do is figuring out how to craft your gifts into a authentic and unique service and how to explain what you sell. If you are a bit like me it’s even tougher. As I’m highly intuitive most of the time concepts or ideas come to me under the form of emotions, certainties and impulses. But as a blogger words are what I have to use to share my vision.
And I’m grateful for that because a great idea is a wonderful thing but it’s nothing more than a dried seed if you don’t plant it. You can imagine what this seed will become. You can picture it in your living-room. But if you don’t plant it you’ll never know how it feels to smell the earth you’ve just watered, you’ll never know the joy of seeing that unexpected flower sprouting out. You’ll never know that the pleasure of watching it growing may be as intense as the pleasure of contemplating its gloriousness.
I guess you already know that but now you really have to make your beautiful project real. Many of my clients tell me : “But what do I start with ?”, “What an amount of work ! It’s so discouraging !”. But there is one simple action you can do and that can change everything : write. Write on your blog. Anything. That’s how I started.
A few years ago as an English teacher I worked in a new school I loved but after two years it became a nightmare. Really. I was drowning and could do nothing but wave my arms not to sink down. So I waved. The only thing I could think of was starting a blog (maybe because I was already a huge fan of Marie Forleo 🙂 ). I absolutely had no idea how I could monetize it (actually I had a few ideas but they didn’t feel quite relevant
and actually they weren’t) but I had no choice. I called it “Lili is looking for a job” Universe, if you read me… and started writing about how I felt. Then I added a few posts about what I loved : fashion, movies, spiritual events…. That brought me two essential things :
– I learnt that people liked the way I wrote,
– I gradually admitted that the only thing I loved as much as writing was using my Tarot cards to help people (so obvious but it took me years and years to reach that conclusion).
My blog became “Frivolous Lili, the secret notebook of a tarologist” and I had the amazing surprise of discovering that talking silly and being myself attracted clients ! My blog friends were beginning to ask for my help. They trusted me ! Being myself was good for my baby business ! What a discovery ! So I naturally created a system helping bloggers create their dream job.
I’m telling you this story because I want you to understand that I could have thought and thought and re-thought about my reconversion and nothing would have happened. I wouldn’t have understood anything. You really have to take that small easy action : write.
Hum…. I can see that some of you are frowning. Yes I know. When you start, writing is not that easy. You’re scared. I was scared. Of everything and anything. But you know what ? Fear is anticipation. You’re scared because you’re anticipating what your readers, your friends, your family, your co-workers will think. You’re scared that someone might leave you a nasty comment. You’re scared because, if it works, you’ll have to change your lifestyle. Nothing more than divination ! Tell me, you’re not a fortune-teller, aren’t you ? 😉 So just stop thinking and live the moment. Accept what you feel but act.
Did I lose you ? I’ll say it again. First thing to do : sit down in front of your computer. And then ? Create a blog and write. That’s all. Write. Everything that comes to your mind. Write. Don’t think about your style. Write. You still don’t know it but your blog has a soul. Let it guide you.
Action of the week
This week, write a post about something that is really important for you. Don’t worry if it has nothing to do with your project, it has to pour out from your fingers and your heart. Leave a comment and link to your blog post. I promise I’ll read it and comment !
